How Much Time Off Do You Get as a Trucker?

Commercial driving is the ideal career path for many people, but everyone needs a break occasionally. Even if you love being on the road, you’ll love the amount of time you get to spend with your family as a truck driver. Keep reading and find out how much time off you get as a trucker.

Home Time
Not all truck drivers have families that they need to get home to. If you’re one of the drivers who does have a family that you miss while you’re on the road, you’ll be happy to see their smiling faces when you get back from a job. You won’t want to spend any more time away from home than you have to, which is why you’ll be approved for a day off for every six days you spend on the road. Use this time to catch up with your family and friends from the comfort of your own home.

Vacation Time
In addition to regular time off, truck drivers get vacation time as well. The exact amount of vacation time you’ll be granted depends on the company you work for, but you can expect a good trucking company to offer vacation pay after one year, two years, and five years of service. This gives you some quality time that you can spend with your family after being on the road for long stretches.

Road Time
Drivers can’t legally drive for more than 11 consecutive hours, and they must occur within a 14-hour window. That means when you’re out on the road, you’ll still have time off to rest and recuperate in between your runs.
